Dr. Austin, DVM

Dr. Austin, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Heather Austin grew up in Peachtree City, GA. Dr. Austin first fell in love with the mountain west when she attended Colorado State University, graduating with a Bachelors in Animal Science. Following an interest in ruminant nutrition, she then obtained a Masters in Animal Science from North Carolina State University.

It was during her time in North Carolina that she met her husband, Brandon, and they moved to Oklahoma. Dr. Austin graduated with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Oklahoma State University in 2011, with an interest in mixed animal practice. Following graduation, Dr. Austin took a position at Skiatook Animal Clinic; a mixed animal practice serving the rural communities north of Tulsa, OK.

Dr. Austin is thrilled to be in Billings, to offer veterinary care to the members of the community, and to be closer to her husband’s family in the Billings area. While she enjoys small animal wellness and internal medicine, Dr. Austin loves the variety and challenges small animal practice provides.

In her free time, Dr. Austin enjoys spending time with her family, enjoying the amazing outdoor opportunities, hiking, fishing, reading, and gardening.

Kathy

Hospital Manager

Kathy and her husband recently returned to Billings from Minnesota. Her husband was born and raised in Montana, and they wanted to return to his roots. Kathy has a degree in Business Management and Healthcare Administration and worked as a hotelier for 10 years before joining the Veterinary profession as a Hospital Manager. Kathy has two spoiled fur babies of her own, Gaea and Terra, that helped drive her passion for animals. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hiking, biking, walking her dogs, and spending time in the outdoors with her husband and her daughter.

My interest in veterinary medicine started at about age 14 while growing up in a suburb of Chicago. Even at that early age I knew I wanted to live in Montana and be a vet. I finished high school in Illinois then went west for college. While at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah I found the other loves of my life; Caren, my wife, and fly fishing. After graduating from BYU with a degree in Animal Science our little family which now consisted of me, Caren and our son Andrew moved back to Illinois. I attended veterinary school at the University of Illinois in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois and graduated in 2000. While in Illinois, we added another son, Mitchell, to our family. After completion of vet school, I accepted my first job in Billings MT working for Dr. Ed Jorden at Moore Lane Vet Hospital. We loved living in Montana and obviously decided this is where we wanted to stay, so here we are. Montana for me is full of things I love: my family which now consists of Caren and 5 kids (Andrew, Mitchell, Avery, Callum, and Bronwyn) and 2 Brittany Spaniels (Amber and Ella), and all the outdoor activities Montana has to offer. I love to go fishing or bird hunting with my family and friends every chance I get. In fact, if I’m not in the office I’m probably fishing, camping, hunting, gardening or watching one of my kid’s soccer games. Montana offers a great quality of life.

I’m a single mom of a boy named Braden. He loves that his mom gets to work at the vet and helps the animals feel better. I have a St. Bernard, Dachshund, and a kitten at home. I have been working at Skyview Veterinary Hospital since 2016. I started my journey here as a receptionist and fell in love with the job and all my co-workers. Each day seems to bring new experiences and I’m always learning new techniques.
